Three African-American Musicians

Home
Emancipation

Project Overview

Students will explore the lives and careers of three African-American musicians born after the Emancipation Proclamation: Scott Joplin, famous for ragtime music; Bob Cole, known for musical theater; and Will Marion Cook, a pioneer in jazz. After identifying obstacles these men overcame, their successes will be celebrated. Students will choose another African-American musician to highlight in a powerpoint presentation.
